Announcement values
Players declare most announcements when they play their first card. Belote is different: it can be declared when playing the King or Queen of trump.
| Announcement | Meaning | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Tierce | 3 consecutive cards in one suit | 20 |
| Quarte | 4 consecutive cards in one suit | 50 |
| Quinte | 5 consecutive cards in one suit | 100 |
| Carré | Four of a kind | 100 |
| Carré of 9s | Four 9s | 150 |
| Carré of Jacks | Four Jacks | 200 |
| Belote | King and Queen of trump | 20 |
Which team scores
When both teams announce, the strongest announcement wins. The winning team scores all of its valid announcements; the other team scores none, except belote when declared.
- Longer sequences beat shorter sequences.
- For equal sequence length, higher top card wins.
- Carré beats sequences according to its point value.
- Overlapping announcements that reuse the same cards may be rejected.
How to use announcements
Announcements can swing a close round, but they do not replace card play. A team with strong announcements still needs enough trick points to make the contract outside.
